Airports

Heathrow Airport, London
I had around three hours between flights and was expecting the terminal change to be stressful. The signs were mostly clear once I knew which direction I needed to follow, although the walk took longer than expected. I found a comfortable place to wait near the next gate, but it became much busier before departure. I would leave more time than the minimum if you are making a connection here.
Connecting passenger
Narita International Airport, Tokyo
I arrived in the evening and found the main airport areas fairly easy to understand. The confusing part was finding the correct ticket area after collecting my luggage, so I spent a few minutes checking signs before I worked it out. Once I was in the right place, the rest was straightforward. The journey into central Tokyo also took longer than I had pictured, so I would allow enough time if you have plans soon after arrival.
Example scenario
First-time visitor
Charles de Gaulle Airport, Paris
We were travelling with two children and had to move between different areas after arriving. The airport was not impossible to navigate, but the walking felt much longer when we had several bags with us. The signs helped most of the time, although we stopped twice to make sure we were going the right way. Our connection worked without a problem, but I would avoid planning a very tight transfer here with children.

Airport Transfers

Narita to Central Tokyo
I used the train after arriving at Narita and found the process much easier once I had decided which service I wanted to take. Buying the ticket was simple, but the station area had enough signs and information that I still double checked before boarding. The journey itself was comfortable and predictable. With luggage, I would still check the station and arrival point beforehand instead of trying to figure everything out after landing.
Example scenario
Charles de Gaulle to Paris Centre
The route into central Paris worked, but it took some concentration after a long flight. We had luggage and found the first part of the journey more crowded than expected. Once we were on the right service, everything was much easier. I would recommend checking the route before leaving the terminal because trying to decide where to go while tired was the least enjoyable part of the transfer.
